New Garage Door Installation in Grand Junction, CO

You have repaired it enough times that you have stopped counting, or the panels are dented and the finish has chalked out and you look at it every single time you pull in.

A garage door is the largest thing on the front of most houses in this valley, and it is the one exterior project where the install matters more than the brochure.

Who shows up
A Kooler Kraftsman crouched at the bottom of a garage door track with a drill.
The install work nobody photographs happens at the floor. Bottom bracket, track plumb, the first roller seated square. Get those three wrong and the panels above them never sit right.

The fear with a new door

The worry is choosing wrong. Wrong size, wrong insulation, wrong finish for a wall that takes sun almost every day, and finding out about it after the check clears.

So the spec happens at your house with a tape measure, and the door on the signed quote is the door that gets hung.

Two very different installs in one town

In the older core, near North Avenue, on Orchard Mesa and through the 1970s Redlands streets, the garages are smaller and shallower and were framed for a light single door. Most have been re-doored once already.

So the opening gets read before anything is ordered. Header condition and level, jambs plumb, headroom and backroom measured, and the spring package sized to the door that is actually going on rather than to the one that came out. A modern insulated sectional is a heavier object than the original, and pretending otherwise is how a new door starts binding in month two.

In the 2000s-and-later subdivisions on the northwest side and out toward Pear Park, the framing is square and the problem is the package. Those homes came with the lightest acceptable hardware, and a replacement is usually about upgrading the springs, rollers and operator to match the door you are choosing now.

Sun, dry air, and what to pick because of them

A south- or west-facing door in this valley takes direct sun most days of the year, and dark colors run hotter and move more under it. That is worth a real conversation before a color gets picked, not after.

Insulation matters here for stiffness as much as for R-value. A stiffer insulated panel holds its shape against heat and against the day-to-night swing, which keeps the bottom seal in contact with the concrete instead of curling away from it.

And the perimeter matters more than people expect. Dry air and fine grit find every gap a door does not close cleanly, so the trim and the seals get addressed as part of the install rather than left for later.

How the install goes

Spec at the house. Material, color, insulation, window options and hardware chosen against the architecture and the exposure, priced before you sign.

Install in one visit. Old door out and hauled away. New tracks, springs, cables and rollers in, not a panel swap onto twenty-year-old hardware. Opener mounted and matched to the door's real weight.

Balanced, tuned and walked. Before the truck leaves, the door runs with you standing in the garage. Open, close, auto-reverse, keypad, app. Every Kooler door carries the Kore rung at no cost, and Krew, Kommand and Krown step up the hardware and the spring rating from there, up to the 50,000-plus-cycle Kpex Spring at Krown.

What is included

What it costs

The written quote comes off the on-site spec and the on-site number is binding.

Kraftsman's Guarantee on labor and parts, never expires.

Common questions

New Garage Door Installation in Grand Junction. What homeowners ask.

Our garage is from the fifties and it is small and shallow. Will a modern door even fit? +
Almost always, but the measurements decide the door rather than the other way around. Headroom, backroom and the header get measured first, and low-headroom track or a different lift type solves most shallow garages. What we will not do is force a standard package into an opening that cannot carry it.
Does the direction our garage faces change what we should buy? +
It does. A south- or west-facing door takes sun nearly every day here, and a dark color on a thin non-insulated panel will run hot and move more. On those walls an insulated panel and a lighter or mid-tone finish hold their shape better, and your Kraftsman will say so at the spec.
The builder door on our house is only about fifteen years old. Is it too early to replace it? +
Often it is, and we will tell you that. On a young door from one of the newer subdivisions the usual honest answer is springs, rollers and an operator rather than a full replacement. Replacement is the right call when panels are compromised or the door no longer suits what you want the front of the house to look like.
The header over our opening looks like it has sagged a little. Is that a door problem or a house problem? +
It is a framing question, and it gets answered before a door is ordered. A sagging header shows up as a door that seals at the middle and gaps at the corners, and hanging new steel on it just hides the symptom. If it needs structural work first, we will name it and stop, rather than sell you a door on top of it.
