How Long Do Garage Door Openers Last?

Most garage door openers will last for approximately 10-15 years. This will depend largely on your type of opener, how often you use it, and if it receives regular maintenance. We always recommend scheduling annual garage door maintenance because the more maintenance your opener receives, the longer it is likely to last.

What To Do When Your Opener Isn’t Working

If your garage door won’t open, try resetting the power on your opener. Sometimes this will fix the issue if it’s a mild problem. If that doesn’t work, try changing out the batteries in your remotes or keypad. If this troubleshooting doesn’t work, then contact us for a garage door opener repair. From our locations in Gunnison and Grand Junction, we aim to provide fast and efficient garage repairs for all our customers.

SOMMER Garage Door Opener

This could be an issue with your garage door sensors. These sensors are designed to keep your garage door from closing on your car or a person. You can find the sensors located at the base on either side of your garage door opening.

This safety mechanism works through a beam connecting the sensors on either side of your garage opening. If an object is in the way and the beam is broken, then the garage door won’t close. If the lights are green, then there shouldn’t be a problem with them. If one is red or blinking, then there’s an issue. Try clearing any dust or debris off the lens. If that doesn’t work, then call us and we’ll realign or replace your sensors.

You can! Simply pull the red cord hanging down from your opener to disengage it from your garage door. Then you should be able to manually raise and lower your door without a problem.

We do! If we can’t repair your opener, we can replace it with a new garage door opener. We offer plenty of drive types and models for you to explore from top brands including LiftMaster Garage Door Openers and Sommer Garage Door Openers.
